Apprentice Technician

Job summary:

The Technician (Band 1) has professional accountability to the Technical Manager to achieve the organisations corporate objectives and to make a positive contribution to the provision of services.

The post holder duties include:

  • Working closely with the Technical Manager/Deputy Technical Manager to ensure the safe and effective day to day operations of the organisation are maintained
  • To perform all duties assigned in accordance with the current quality system, global statutory regulations, in particular, CGMP’s and ISO 17025
  • Contribute to technical projects across the organisation

Key Responsibilities:

The Technician will be specifically responsible for the delivery of quality services and sustaining of professional standards, in the following areas:

Leadership:

Alongside the Technical Manager/Deputy Technical Manager and Team.

  • Contribute to the corporate aims, vision and values of the organisation
  • Help to develop a culture and environment where safe and high-quality services are consistently delivered across the organisation
  • Complete all duties assigned in a timely manner
  • Provide operational assistance to chemists/analysts and other staff as appropriate
  • Assist in the laboratory investigation process where appropriate
  • Implement and maintain the policies and procedures for HMR relating to staff and professional conduct (as per section 3 of the HMR Handbook)
  • Undertake L&D activities and deliver training appropriate to role, when requested

Service and business planning and delivery:

  • Undertake analytical testing as required, appropriate to your skills and experience, ensuring trained to do so
  • Monitor technical equipment ensuring maintained and report to supervisors when required
  • Provide support to staff where required
  • Follow the company safe practices of work outlined in the Health and Safety policy and procedures
  • Ensure that laboratory work areas are maintained and kept clean and tidy

Delivery of high-quality services:

  • Ensure that all activities are undertaken in compliance with current Quality System, cGMP and other Statutory Regulations
  • Maintain quality in own work and encourage others to do so
  • Ensure consistently high quality through a culture of effective teamwork and quality focus
  • Contributing to a culture and performance management processes which complies with the organisations policies
  • Produce clear documents such as writing up analytical work, when trained and required to do so

Communications and relationships:

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships using effective proactive communication mechanisms with a range of people on day to day matters relating to work and team/cross organisation matters

Confidentiality:

  • The post holder must maintain confidentiality of information relating to staff and customers of the organisation

Health and safety:

  • Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations (1992). This ensures that the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees and visitors to the organisation
