Mechanical Maintenance Technician Apprentice

Typical day to day duties for the Mechanical Maintenance Technician would include the following:

  • Carry out preventative maintenance checks & activities of process plant & service equipment (e.g. steam boilers, thermal fluid heaters, compressed air generation etc.) to ensure safe & reliable operation
  • Diagnose & determine causes of problems with mechanical plant & equipment
  • Carry out repair or replacement of mechanical plan & equipment to return to safe operational condition
  • Fabrication & installation of new metallic pipework systems of screwed & welded construction
  • Modification, maintenance & repair of existing metallic pipework systems & components e.g. pumps, valves, flexibles etc.
  • Fabrication & installation of equipment & pipework support steelwork structures
  • Preparation of mechanical equipment e.g. tanks, vessels & pipework systems etc. for inspection & repair, including safe isolation
  • Supervision of contractors during specialist inspection, maintenance, repair and equipment installation activities
  • Recording of all mechanical work carried out on computer maintenance management system
  • Ensure engineering workshop & stores areas are kept clean and tidy and all tools, equipment and spares are stored correctly
