Entry Requirements

For this course you will require:

The IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation (Latest Edition).

Current ECS Gold Card for:

• Installation Electrician
• Maintenance Electrician
• Domestic Electrician

Or

Any of the following qualifications plus 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification within the last 5 years:

• C&G 5393 Electrotechnical in Dwellings
• C&G 5357 Level 3 Electrotechnical (installation or maintenance
• C&G 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (buildings, structures and the environment)
• C&G 2346 Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
• C&G 2347 Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification

Course Content

This course is designed for qualified electricians looking to upskill in the design, installation and maintenance of domestic and small commercial electric vehicle charging installations.

COURSE MODULES

• Know the key requirements relating to electric vehicle charging equipment
• Know the different types and features of electric vehicle charging equipment
• Be able to design an installation for electric vehicle charging equipment
• Understand requirements for inspection, testing, commissioning and handover of electric vehicle charging equipment and circuits
• Understand the use of vehicles as electrical energy storage systems as part of prosumer’s installations.

SKILLS LEARNED

• Design an EV charging installations
• Calculate the correct size cable for the design current and length of run
• Install an EV system taking in to consideration the nature of the environment and other external influences
• Understand the regulatory requirements for installing EV charging systems
• Communication with appropriate bodies (DNO/DSO)
• Commission an EV charging system
• Requirements for inspection and testing
• Requirements for maintenance.
