This qualification delivers the skills and essential knowledge to manage books effectively and is an ideal starting point for those wishing to pursue a career in Bookkeeping or progress to further study in accounting. It includes manual double entry bookkeeping, and associated documents and processes, up to Trial Balance standard. It also enables students to gain an understanding of how bookkeeping tasks can be automated through use of accounting software.
No formal qualifications are required but a basic literacy and numeracy competence is essential.
On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements in more depth to ensure the course is right for you.
The AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping covers a range of foundation bookkeeping skills in two mandatory units:
• Introduction to Bookkeeping
• Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
Both units are assessed individually in end-of-unit externally marked computer-based assessments.

Upon successful completion of this course, you may wish to apply to study AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping or AAT Level 3 Certificate in Accounting.
Additional help and support is available for you should you require it and this can be discussed at your admissions interview.
Due to the AAT being a professional awarding body, you will need to register with the AAT and pay a registration fee of £65 directly to the AAT within 2 weeks of joining the course.
You will also need to purchase text books that are approximately £50. You will be provided with a book list during the first week of the course and be expected to buy these immediately.
