This course is a practical work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course will introduce you to a career in ICT and provide a good basis to progress onto a more advanced qualification.

Entry Requirements

For this course you will need to have achieved one of the following:

• A minimum of 4 GCSEs Grade 3 or above, to include English or maths
• A Level 1 qualification or equivalent

On receipt of your application to study this course, you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.

Course Content

During this course you will study seven units in total. Three mandatory units will provide a general foundation and a further four specialist units will introduce you to particular topics in more depth.

Mandatory Units:
• The Online World
• Technology Systems
• A Digital Portfolio

Specialist Units to Include:
• Mobile Apps Development
• Creating Digital Animation
• Spreadsheet Development
• Website Development

Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above.

You will have the opportunity to take part in educational and industrial visits during your course. Possible visits may include Manchester United FC, The Museum of Science & Industry and Cheshire Police but could be subject to change, and most will incur an extra cost which will be discussed at the interview.

Assessment

All BTEC Level 2 First Certificate units are assessed through project and assignment work and external examinations. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and then an overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* is awarded on completion of the course.

GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work.

Progression

This course will allow progression to a Level 3 course in IT, study an Apprenticeship or straight into the industry in a variety of roles.
