Returning to education can feel challenging, especially if it has been a long time since you last studied. First Step is a friendly short course designed to help adults rebuild confidence while developing practical communication, study and basic digital skills.
No previous study of the language is required although language skills will be developed over the course duration. Please speak to the tutor to assess your level and appropriate course.
This course is delivered by experienced counselling lecturers, creating a warm, empathic and supportive learning environment where learners feel comfortable returning to education.
Over five weeks you will learn how to:
• communicate ideas more clearly
• improve writing and study skills
• find and understand reliable information
• develop basic digital skills
• build confidence in discussions and presentations
No formal assessment.

This course can support progression into further learning, including Level 2 Counselling Skills.
Additional help and financial support is available to you should you require it and you can discuss this further at your admissions interview on what options are available.
Fee waivers are available for learners on benefits or low wage, subject to eligbility criteria.
