This course provides a basis for moving into engineering training or employment. The course focuses on developing basic engineering skills within Fabrication, mechanical, electrical/electronic and manufacture engineering.
The course is designed to help learners to develop:
• Core Skills hand skills in engineering
• An understanding of the workplace in engineering
• Basic CAD use
• Basic engineering mathematics
• Intro to electrical engineering
• Learning through practical experience
Maths at a grade 4/C.
The qualification consists of five subject areas –
Working in Engineering
Principles of Engineering Technology
Principles of engineering health and safety
Use Bench Fitting techniques
Machine components using turning techniques
During the course you will carry out a number of assignments and external examinations set by the tutor.

On successful achievement of this course you may wish to apply to study other qualifications in engineering, depending on current skills, experience and qualifications.
Additional help and support is available should you require this and you can discuss this further at your admissions interview with an Engineering tutor. Additionally, you will need an overall and a pair of safety shoes/boots for mechanical machine workshop practical sessions.
