FURTHER COURSE INFORMATION

A practical introductory ceramics course designed for beginners. Learners explore clay, ceramic materials, tools, equipment and techniques, developing confidence in hand-building, surface decoration, glazing and creative ceramic design.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications required. Suitable for learners aged 16+ with an interest in ceramics, pottery and creative craft. Basic literacy, mathematics and the ability to work safely in a workshop environment are beneficial.

Course Content

Explore craft resources; explore craft ideas; develop ceramic designs; investigate clay types, tools and equipment; hand-building techniques (pinch, coil and slab); surface decoration and glazing; health and safety in the ceramics studio; planning, creating, presenting and reviewing a final ceramic piece.

Assessment

Internally assessed portfolio of evidence, including practical work, sketchbooks, design development, photographic evidence, written reflections, and a final ceramic outcome. Externally moderated by NCFE.

Progression

NCFE Level 2 Award in Creative Craft, NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Creative Craft, Art & Design programmes, ceramics and pottery courses, or other creative arts qualifications.
