The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care covers a variety of topics that link to health and social care which will allow you to explore the sector in more detail. Opportunities from this course include further learning at Level 3 and above, or assistance with progression into the workplace.
If your dream career lies within the healthcare or social care industry, then the CACHE Level 3 qualifications in Health and Social Care provide much of the underpinning knowledge for the National Occupational Standards in Health and Social Care and therefore, acts as a robust introduction to the industry.
You will benefit from studying a number of mandatory units as well as a wide range of optional units. You will also undertake a 175-hour placement over 2 years, which will help you gain invaluable experience in your chosen career.
This qualification will provide you with an insight into the skills, qualities, knowledge and experience needed to enter a career in the health and social care profession.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, which must include a grade 4 in English and Maths.
You are also required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) to allow you to access the work placement.
As a specialised subject, you must have a desire to work in a person-facing role and have a desire to build on interpersonal skills, such as empathy and compassion.
On receipt of your application to study this course, you will be invited to attend an admissions interview to discuss the course and its requirements further.
During this 2 year course you will study 14 mandatory units and a number of optional this units. As well as classroom delivery, you will also undertake placement in a real work environment with a minimum requirement of 175 hours over the 2 years.

• Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care

• Communication in Health and Social Care
• Safeguarding in Health and Social Care
• Infection Prevention and Control in Health and Social Care
Alongside this qualification, you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skill in English Language and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above. If you have achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language and Maths, you will engage in extending these skills through your Study Programme.
You will also have the opportunity to visit universities to experience student life, as well as visits to a variety of care environments. In addition to this you will also take part in fundraising and charity events within the local area and will benefit from a range of guest speakers from different sectors of the health and social care industry.
Portfolio of evidence as well as two externally set and externally marked synoptic assessments.
All units within these qualifications are internally graded A* - D
GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work.
When attending your work placement, you are required to complete the Learner Handbook as evidence, which will be placed within your portfolio of work. Work experience is a compulsory element of the course and supports your learning by providing opportunities for you to apply knowledge to practice, receive feedback, and reflect on your own experience. Placement also provides opportunities for you to observe professional practice in action and gain valuable employability skills.
