This is an advanced course in navigation and meteorology. If you have some experience in offshore yachts (sail or motor) and have theoretical knowledge to RYA Dayskipper level this course will be suitable for you.
The course requires knowledge to RYA Day Skipper standard – in particular ability to work EP, CTS and tidal height calculations. Some offshore sailing experience is also assumed.
You are required to purchase (through the college) RYA course materials costing approximately £48 (subject to confirmation at the time of enrolment).These include practice charts, navigation tables and a book and will normally be available at the first class.

You will be assessed by on-going exercises (done as homework – approx. 14 hours) and by three examinations.

You will be entitled (given that you have the required sea time etc) to take the Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster practical examinations. You may also wish to progress to the Ocean Navigation course.
You should bring along a notebook or paper plus a soft (2B) pencil, eraser and your chosen navigational instruments for chartwork.
