Overview

This course is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career in accountancy or finance. The purpose of this course is to offer grounding in the core accounting knowledge and skills needed to progress either to employment or further study.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required but a basic literacy and numeracy competence is essential.

On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements in more depth to ensure the course is right for you.

Content

The AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting covers a range of foundation accounting and finance skills in five mandatory units:

• Bookkeeping Transactions
• Bookkeeping Controls
• Elements of Costing
• Using Accounting Software
• Work Effectively in Finance

Assessment

Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessements, in addition to this there is a synoptic assesement which draws on assessed knowledge and understanding from across the qualification.

Progression

Upon successful completion of this course, you may wish to apply to study AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Level 3)

Additional information

Additional help and support is available for you should you require it and this can be discussed at your admissions interview.

Due to the AAT being a professional awarding body, you will need to become a student member of the AAT and pay a membership fee of £147 (if this is your first year of study) or £99 to renew your membership directly to the AAT within 4 weeks of joining the course.

You will also need to purchase text books that are approximately £100. You will be provided with a book list during the first week of the course and be expected to buy these immediately
