Overview
This course is a practical work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course will introduce you to a career in ICT and provide a good basis to progress onto a level 2 qualification.
Entry Requirements
For this course you will need to have achieved:
• A minimum of 3 GCSEs Grade 1 or above
On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.
Content
During this course you will study ten units in total. Four core units will provide a general foundation and a further six specialist units will introduce you to particular topics in more depth.

A1 Being Organised
A2 Developing a Personal Progression Plan
A3 Working with Others
A4 Researching a Topic
Sector Specific Units:
Unit IT5: Developing Digital Information Using IT
Unit IT6: Using Digital Communication Technologies
Unit IT8: Creating a Spreadsheet to Solve Problems
Unit IT9: Creating a Website
Unit IT10: Creating a Computer Program
Unit IT12: Creating a Digital Animated Graphic
Alongside your main programme of study, you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above.
Assessment
All BTEC Level 1 Diploma units are assessed through assignment work. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and then an overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* is awarded on completion of the course.
GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work.

You will have the opportunity to take part in educational and industrial visits during your course. Possible visits may include Manchester United FC, The Museum of Science & Industry and Cheshire Police but could be subject to change, and most will incur an extra cost which will be discussed at interview.
