16-18 Year Olds


The Level 3 in Engineering is a nationally recognised work-related qualification, which encompasses mechanical and electrical elements designed to give you a good start on your journey to a career in engineering. The course is based wholly around assignment led units that are aligned to realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course will introduce you to and prepare you for the world of work.

This course provides a good basis to progress onto a Level 4 qualification, a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Diploma (HND). Alternatively, it can help you gain an apprenticeship in your desired discipline.

Entry Requirements

For this course you will need to have achieved one of the following:

• Grade 5 or above in Maths and a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above including English and a science.
• Level 2 qualification in an Engineering related subject and GCSE Maths grade 4 or above.

On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.


During this course you will study a variety of topics to introduce you to the various disciplines in Engineering, including mechanical, electrical and CAD elements.


During the course you will carry out a number of internally assessed assignments. You will have the opportunity to produce a work related project that will allow you to creatively use the skills you have learnt.

Awarding body



On successful achievement of this course you may wish to:

* Apply to study a Level 4 qualification such as a Foundation Degree or Higher National here at the College or at University
* Pursue a range of employment opportunities/apprenticeships within a variety of engineering settings.
