16-18 Year Olds


The Level 3 in Aerospace Engineering is a nationally recognised work-related qualification, which encompasses mechanical and electrical elements designed to give you a good start on your journey to a career in aerospace engineering. The course is based around examined units and assignment lead units that are aligned to realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course will introduce you to and prepare you for the world of work.

This course provides a good basis to progress onto a Level 4 qualification, such as a
Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Diploma (HND). Alternatively it can help you gain an apprenticeship in your desired discipline.

Entry Requirements

For this course you will need to have achieved one of the following:
• Grade 5 in Maths and a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above
• Level 2 qualification in an Engineering related subject and 4 GCSE Maths

On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.


During this course you will study a variety of topics that include aeronautical elements:

• Engineering science
• Engineering based project

Alongside your main programme of study you will also study for a GCSE in English if you have not achieved a grade 4 or above. If you have achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English you will engage in extending these skills through a Directed Study Programme.


During the course you will carry out a number of assignments and internal or external tests set by the awarding body. You will have the opportunity to produce a work related project that will allow you to creativly use the skills you have learnt.

On successful achievement of this course you may wish to apply to study a Level 4 qualification such as a Foundation Degree or Higher National.
