Overview
The Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care covers a variety of topics that link to health and social care which will allow you to explore the sector in more detail. Opportunities from this course include further learning at Level 3 and above, or assistance with progression into the workplace.
Entry Requirements
For this course you will need to have achieved one of the following (subject to awarding body conditions):
• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language or Maths at grade 3 or higher, or prior achievement at level 1.
You are also required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) to allow you to access the work placement
As a specialised subject, you must have a desire to work in a person-facing role and have a desire to build on interpersonal skills, such as empathy and compassion.
On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview to discuss the course and its requirements further.
Content
During this course you will study five mandatory units and two optional units. As well as classroom delivery, you will also undertake placement in a real work environment with a requirement of 35 hours.
Mandatory units include:
• Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
• Human growth and development
• Safeguarding and protection in health and social care
• Communication in health and social care
• Working in health and social care
Optional units may include:
• Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care
• Infection Prevention and Control in Health and Social Care
• Mental Health and Wellbeing
• Learning Disability
• Common Care Disorders
• Creative Activities in Health and Social Care
• Dementia Awareness
• End of life care
• Health and Wellbeing
• Nutritional for Health and Social Care
Alongside this qualification, you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skill in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above. If you have achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will engage in extending these skills through your Study Programme.
Assessment
Portfolio of evidence
All units within these qualifications are internally graded A* – D
GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work.

Progression
Upon successful completion of this course you can progress onto our Level 3 Health and Social Care course to enhance your knowledge. Alternatively, you may wish to gain full-time employment or an apprenticeship within the sector.
