Overview

This qualification provides learners with an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment. It will enable learners to gain an understanding of elements including children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare, and communication and professional relationships.

This course is also suitable for learners already working in roles that support pupils’ learning including teaching assistants, learning support assistants and special needs assistants.

Learners complete all study online with the option to attend workshop sessions in college.

Entry Requirements

The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning is suitable for learners working in support roles within schools and colleges.
You will need to be working or be on a practical placement during the duration of the taught programme of study, in a learning environment (school or college).
The awarding body recommends that the learner undertakes 100 hours of placement in a real work environment.

Content

This qualification aims to:
• focus on the study of the supporting teaching and learning
• offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
• provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills

Age range covered by the qualification:
From five years of age.
Please note that some knowledge of development in the early years has been included in the specification to enhance learners’ understanding.

The objectives of this qualification are to:
• provide learners with knowledge and skills needed to work in a school or college environment
• provide a stepping stone into further learning within the sector

To achieve this qualification learners are required to successfully complete 11 mandatory online units.

You will need to be working or be on a practical placement during the duration of the taught programme of study, in a learning environment (school or college). The awarding body recommends that the learner undertakes 100 hours of placement in a real work environment.

Assessment

You will be assessed by a including written assignments, presentation and observation submitted through an online platform.
All the evidence generated will be assessed against the standards expected of a Level 3 learner for each learning outcome.

Progression

Learners can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning or into the workforce
