Overview
The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a first stage teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement.
It is an ‘in service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers in England. It may be possible for pre-service teachers/trainers (defined as those who are not formally contracted as teachers/trainers) to also complete this qualification. All candidates, whether pre-service or in-service must have access to 30 hours of teaching (the College MAY be able to facilitate this in some circumstances). This qualification is also suitable for those delivering education and training in any learning environment.
Entry Requirements
All applicants (whether pre-service or in-service) must have access to 30 hours of teaching (in either a voluntary or paid capacity).
Applicants must also be qualified to at least Level 3 in the subject they intend to teach. In addition, you must have achieved GCSE in English (or equivalent qualification) and it is recommended that you have at least achieved a Level 2 in Maths in order to progress in a teaching career. This requirement is negotiable and is at the discretion of the tutors.
Content
Candidates who successfully complete this qualification will have a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. They will be able to use initial and diagnostic assessments and plan and deliver inclusive teaching and learning. They will also be able to assess learning and use appropriate resources to support effective learning.
Assessment
There is no examination. Candidates will be assessed on both theoretical and practical assignments.
Candidates will also be observed in practice by a member of the teacher education team (or other suitably qualified member of the teaching staff) and will be graded in line with Ofsted criteria. There will be a minimum of 4 observations depending on previous qualifications achieved.
