The workshop will enable you to make, decorate and glaze pottery items.
You will study a variety of topics including:
• Preparation of clay
• A variety of working & decorative techniques through project work
• Use of materials and equipment
• Health and Safety in the workshop area
• Firing techniques
There is no formal assessment though you will be given feedback on your work.
The Intermediate and Advanced workshops are flexible and can cater for all levels of students who have already studied other courses and who want to continue their practice. For those with no previous experience there is a Beginners Workshop on Wednesday mornings and the Tuesday evening Workshop is open to all.
There will be an element of design in each workshop, where the tutor will guide you to make pieces you did not know you were capable of making.
Each termly workshop will explore a different technique or surface decoration alongside creating a variety of pottery using different methods.
Art materials will be provided but there will be an additional charge for clay, glaze and firing.
Students can join the course at any of the three terms and continue their learning and practice.
Intermediate and Advanced Workshop for ALL returning students – you will be given a theme to interpret and will be supported with techniques and processes. Students who have prior experience of pottery can join these classes – but for those with no experience there is a beginner’s class on Wednesday.
Beginner’s Workshop including pinch pots, tiles, textures and glazes and hand building (coiling and slab.)This course is suitable for complete beginners and the pace of delivery will reflect that. You will have a couple of weeks on each technique building up towards throwing.
All Levels evening Workshop – This workshop is open to all levels from beginners to advanced.
