This course will enable you to make, decorate and glaze pottery items.
You will study a variety of topics including:
• Preparation of clay
• A variety of working & decorative techniques through project work
• Use of materials and equipment
• Health and Safety in the workshop area
• Firing techniques
There is no formal assessment though you will be given feedback on your work
The courses are flexible and can cater for different levels of students, including beginners and those who have already studied other courses, who want to continue their practice. There will be an element of design, where the tutor will guide you to make pieces you did not know you were capable of making.
The course runs over three terms but can be joined at any time. The first term will be concentrating on “Texture” and different forming techniques, including coiling, slabbing, using dish moulds and or throwing.
The second term concentrates on decorative techniques, based on “Colour”. The third term focuses on glazing and firing techniques, including smoke firing. Art materials will be provided but there will be an additional charge for clay, glaze and firing. Students can join the course at any term and continue their learning and practice. Each termly course runs for 10 x 2hr sessions.
