Overview
If you have been away from formal education for some time, and are hoping to return to education to enhance your career prospects, develop study skills and work towards progressing on to higher education, this introductory course is a great starting point.
The course will enable you to develop a range of academic, employability and life skills in addition to supporting you to improve your confidence and meet new people. It is also designed as an introduction to our Level 3 Access to Higher Education courses which are a direct entry route into a variety of university degrees.
You may also choose to study a Functional Skills qualification in Maths or English alongside.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You will be invited to a taster session and given information about the course, the Functional Skills options* and the progression routes following completion of the course.
*If you wish to also study a Functional Skills qualification, we will arrange an initial assessment to decide upon the best Functional Skill level of study for you.

Basic Word Processing
Research Skills
Essay Writing
Giving a Presentation
Assessment
There are no tests or exams. You will be assessed by a range of methods such as short assignments, group work, discussions and short presentations (resulting in a portfolio of evidence).

The course has been designed to support learners to develop their confidence and to secure the transferrable skills required for further study and/or to enhance employability. This course can enable progression on to higher level qualifications such as the Access to HE Diplomas offered by the College. The Access to HE Team will link in with your course in order to provide the information, advice and guidance to help you to transition onto these courses if appropriate.
