16-18 Year Olds


The qualification will provide a broad base of skills and knowledge within performing and production arts and/or music, will enhance self-confidence, and impart an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within music, performing and production arts.

Entry Requirements

2 GCSEs at grades 1-3 or equivalent, and English and maths grades 1-3.

On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.


Unit 1: Introduction to music, performing and production Arts
Unit 2: Introduction to research for music, performing and production arts
Unit 3: Communicating with an audience for music and performing Arts
Unit 4: Production development for music and performing arts
Unit 5: Performance development for music and performing arts
Unit 6: Music, performing and production arts project

Unit 6 will be externally assessed and graded pass, merit or distinction.

Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skill in English and Maths.


You will be assessed by a range of methods including practical observation and written assignments.

GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work.

University of the Arts London (UAL)


Learners who successfully complete the qualification with a Merit grade or above can progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts or the Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production or a Level 2 course in a different curriculum area.
