Overview

The qualification will provide a base of skills and knowledge within performing and production arts and/or music, will enhance self-confidence, and impart an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within music, performing and production arts.

Entry Requirements

For this course you will need to have achieved one of the following:

2 GCSEs at grades E-G or equivalent, and English and Maths grades 1-3 or prior achievement at entry level 3

On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.

Content

Unit 1 Introduction to creative media methods and skills
Unit 2 Introduction to production techniques in creative media
Unit 3 Understanding an audience in creative media production
Unit 4 Contextual research for creative media production
Unit 5 Exploring audio production and technology
Unit 6 Exploring visual production and technology
Unit 7 Exploring interactive media production and technology
Unit 8 Personal project and presentation in creative media production
Unit 9 Personal project and presentation in creative media production

Alongside your main programme of study, you will also study GCSE in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above.

If you have achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will engage in extending these skills through a Directed Study Programme.

Assessment

Units are assessed through a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstration and assignment work. There are no external examinations. An overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction will be awarded on your final major project in your chosen specialist area.

GCSE qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work.

Progression

On successful achievement of this course you may wish to:

• Apply to progress onto the UAL Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology if you have achieved a Merit, or Distinction overall at the end of your Level 2 course

Additional help and support is available to you should you require it and you can discuss this further at your admissions interview.

You will have the opportunity to take part in educational and industrial visits during your course. A financial contribution of £40 towards the cost of these visits and activities is to be paid during the first term.
