Overview
This course provides an excellent and varied programme giving access to Higher Education or to a wide variety of Music careers. You will develop skills, knowledge and understanding in Music and Music Technology and Production and apply your learning in a practical and professional way. This course is for anyone who has a passion for Music and/or Music Technology and who enjoys learning in a practical and energetic environment.
If you enjoy group and solo work and want to improve your music performance, theory and technology knowledge as well as finding out more about the music industry, this is the course for you.
Entry Requirements
You will need to achieve;
• A minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade 4 and above – including English or maths.
• A Level 2 qualification (e.g. BTEC Level 2 Diploma) at Merit grade or above.( Including English or maths GCSE grade 4 or above)
Following your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.
Content
You will study a total of thirteen units throughout the two academic years for the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma
Unit 1 Principles of music performance and production
Unit 2 Critical listening and music composition
Unit 3 Music industry and professional practice
Unit 4 Critical and contextual awareness for music performance and production
Unit 5 Music production in context
Unit 6 Music performance in context
Unit 7 Preparation for specialist study in music performance and production
Unit 8 Collaborative music performance project
Unit 9 Developing Music Performance and Production Skills
Unit 10 Exploration of specialist study in Music Performance and Production
Unit 11 Preparing for Progression in music performance and production
Unit 12 Project Proposal
Unit 13 Extended project in Music performance and production
Assessment
UAL Extended Diploma in Music Performance and Production units are assessed through a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstration and assignment work. There are no external examinations. An overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction will be awarded on your final major project in your chosen specialist area.
GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination.

On completion of this course:
• You may progress into Higher Education to undertake a Degree in Performing Arts or a Performing Arts related subject
• The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma is also valued by employers and can lead to career opportunities in the Music industry such as a performer, sound recordist, DJ, or music marketing.
