16-18 Year Olds


This course provides an excellent and varied programme giving access to Higher Education or to a wide variety of Performing Arts careers. You will develop skills, knowledge and understanding in Performing Arts and apply your learning in a practical and realistic way.

Entry Requirements

You will need to achieve;
• A minimum of A minimum of 4 GCSEs Grade C/4 and above – inc English
• A Level 2 qualification (e.g. BTEC Level 2 Diploma) at Merit grade or above.

Following your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.


You will study a total of twelve units throughout the two academic years for the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma
Unit 1 Principles of Performance
Unit 2 Engaging with an Audience
Unit 3 Introduction to Professional Practice
Unit 4 Critical and Contextual Awareness
Unit 5 Production Skills and Context
Unit 6 Performance Skills and Context
Unit 7 Preparation for Specialist Study
Unit 8 Collaborative Performance Project
Unit 9 Developing Performance and Production Skills
Unit 10 Preparing for Progression
Unit 11 Exploration of Specialist study and Context
Unit 12 Extended Project


UAL Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts units are assessed through project and assignment work. There are no external examinations. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or and then an overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* is awarded on completion.

GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination.

The UAL Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts is equivalent to three A Levels and can attract a maximum of 168 UCAS points.

• You may progress into Higher Education to undertake a Degree in Performing Arts or a Performing Arts related subject
• The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma is also valued by employers and can lead to career opportunities in the performing
arts industry such as an actor/actress, performer, theatre and back stage support, or dancer
