The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Barbering is for those who have completed a hairdressing qualification or a successful skills test and interview and are seeking a career as a Barber. This qualification is recognised by the UK’s lead hairdressing professional association.
For this course you will need to have achieved one of the following:
• Worked in the Hairdressing industry and wish to work with men’s hair and facial hair or have experience in hairdressing
• Completed an introduction to barbering course
• Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing
On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.
This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for a variety of barbering techniques and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior barber. You must achieve all mandatory units which include:
• Follow health and safety practice in the salon
• Client consultation for hair services
• Cut men’s hair
• Cut facial hair
All units contain internal and external assessment elements and include an externally set and externally marked theory exams. Formative and summative practical assessments will be carried out for each unit. You will be continually assessed through written means including knowledge questions, oral questions and online exams.
On successful completion of this course, you could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include:
• Barber shops
Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment, learners may choose to develop their knowledge and skills further in the following area:
• Level 2 Diploma in Women’s hairdressing
• Level 2 Diploma in Barbering
