16-18 Year Olds


This qualification will cover basic barbering skills and is specifically designed to enable you to carry out a range of techniques on mens hair and facial hair.

Entry Requirements

Level 1 Hairdressing or 3 c’s at GCSE or level 2 ladies hairdressing. Suitabilty on course will be discussed at interview.


During the course the following units are included, adding up to a total of 53 credits
• Follow health and safety practice in the salon – 3 credits
• Working in the hair industry – 4 credits
• Client consultation – 3 credits
• Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp – 3 credits
• Cut men’s hair – 6 credits
• Cut facial hair – 4 credits
• Styling men’s hair – 3 credits
• Salon reception duties – 3 credits
• Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty industry – 7 credits
• Provide scalp massage services – 4 credits
• Promote products and services to clients in a salon – 3 credits
• Display stock to promote sales in a salon – 3 credits
• The art of colouring – 7 credits


You will be assessed by a range of methods including practical observation, assignments and external written exams
