Art and Design students pair their skills with Forest Distillery

Level 3 Art and Design students from Macclesfield College have been putting their creative skills to the test as they work on an advertising project with Forest Distillery, the only gin to have been awarded two separate Double-Gold Medals at the San Francisco World Spirit Awards.

As part of the enrichment element of the course, the students were tasked with creating advertising that reflected the family run business which supplies locally distilled gin and whisky to some of the World’s most famous restaurant and bars.

The students created videos, animations and professional photographs using the iconic ceramic bottles as the centrepiece.

Art and Design lecturer at Macclesfield College, Matt Davenport explains: ‘”Working on a live brief with a client gives them real work experience and helps them understand the design process from a client’s perspective.

“The project has tested our students, making them think creatively in their teams and as a result they have produced a wide range of fantastic art using different materials.

“Fine-tuning their skills in different areas of photography such as building sets, retouching images, styling the shoot and graphic design has been a great way for them to develop.

Karl Bond from Forest Distillery said: “This was a great project for us to get involved in. We love to celebrate all things local, from the botanicals in our gin that are foraged from Macclesfield Forest, to the spring water we use, so working with our local college to help test the skills of students was the next step. I was a student at Macclesfield College myself, so to give something back was fantastic.

“We were impressed with the professionalism of the students and the high standard of responses we had. We’ll definitely be using some of them in our marketing in the future.”
