Macclesfield College School of Art, UAL Extended/ Diploma in Fashion students presented their designs on the catwalk at Macclesfield Town Hall to celebrate their end of year showcase of projects.

A collection of innovative designs were presented on the catwalk. Including beautifully hand woven work, traditional silk screen printing and digital print work. The collection also included exceptional pattern cutting skills, students had produced silhouettes from using Moulage techniques to develop oversized shapes full of energy and impact on the run way. Reserve engineering techniques, deconstruction of pattern cutting pieces to develop individual shapes, through to elegant and sophisticated tailoring.

Year one UAL Fashion student, Jordan Derbyshire,

‘‘Taking part in the fashion show for the first time was such an enjoyable experience and I can’t wait to do it all again next year !

I loved watching my models walk wearing my garments. I had the thrill of knowing I’d done everything to prepare my models outfits so that they fitted perfect. It was a way of showing of my time and effort to family and friends.

Throughout the year I’ve enjoyed making new friends at college! It’s an enjoyable environment where I’ve learnt a variety of new skills which will help me go further in the future. Ange our tutor is brilliant.  She is a great support and always encourages us to get the best results.’’

Causing a stir on the runway with his statement worthy menswear designs, UAL Fashion student Omar Salkini commented about seeing his work on the catwalk,

 “The work spoke for itself, the fact that it took hours to create and refine for it to become an outfit makes me feel a sense of achievement and progression. ‘’

Omar Salkini will be progressing onto the prestigious fashion course at Ravensbourne University London in September to study BA (Hons) Fashion.

 Year two UAL fashion student, Jay Carney, who has now completed the course and will continue his study at MMU BA (Hons) Fashion Art Direction, said,

“ It gives me so much satisfaction to see the finished piece on the catwalk, for my friends and family to see it , knowing how the garment first started as a sketch and to see it come to fruition, is just amazing to see.”

 The first years shall successfully enter year two of the course and the second years have once again secured offers from the best courses in the UK for fashion.

Course leader for fashion Angela Devoti commented;

 ‘‘The fashion show is always an incredible celebration of all our students’ hard work and creativity. The level of skill and talent presented once again is exceptional! Every student has worked so hard throughout the year and have all produced such accomplished work for this stage of their learning.

The first years shall progress into their second year of the course in September and the second years have now completed the course and will continue their study at University.  They have achieved offers onto some of the best fashion degree courses in the UK which will help them now to gain industry positions.  They all have such exciting times ahead as they continue to develop their individual handwriting as designers and image makers.

Our fashion alumni from School of Art at Macclesfield College have a long standing reputation for gaining incredible industry positions. We have so many of our former students now coming back to guest lecture and share with our current students their knowledge and experience from working across an array of areas within the industry, which is wonderful and so inspiring to all our students. I always love to hear how our students develop in the industry.

I am so proud of all the students achievements and I wish them all every success in the future!’’
