A former student has advanced his career and learned vital skills for the workplace after studying a number of courses at Macclesfield College alongside his current job.
Howard Smith, who is a Departmental Manager at Siemens in Congleton, studied BTEC Level 3, 4 and 5 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering over a five year period at the college, and believes his time there was crucial in helping him grow in his current role.
“My time at the college helped me improve my level of learning, not just in electrical and electronic topics but also in the layout and structure of documentation,” said Howard. “Studying there also helped increase my confidence in delivering presentations.
“It gave me the belief that you can achieve anything with hard work, even if it initially seems very difficult.”
Howard has also outlined how the learning environment at the college, and the teaching he received, played a big part in him enjoying his studies.
“The courses were challenging but also very rewarding and the main thing that has stuck with me was how approachable the lecturers were – the support network was excellent too.
“Also, the facilities were second to none and we always had all the equipment needed to complete the courses successfully.”
Now in charge of two separate work areas for the Quality Department at Siemens, Howard has explained that he would encourage others to study at the college, and has praised the dedicated support and tutoring he received during his time there.
“Yes I would recommend Macclesfield College,” confirmed Howard. “The main reason for this is that I feel the lecturers have a lot of time for students in 1-to-1 situations and this was one of the most important factors in me staying there right through to my Level 5 Higher National Diploma.”
