Macclesfield College’s Pure Salon was a hive of activity over the February half term holiday as the doors were opened for a creative Hair and Beauty workshop for 13-16 year olds. 30 participants enjoyed learning all about styling tips and specialist techniques from the College’s industry professionals with the opportunity for lots of hands-on activity in the fully-equipped salons.
The workshop gave everyone the chance to have a go at sessions in hairdressing, beauty therapy and media make-up. In the hair salon the activity involved plaiting and curling to create different hair styles using mannequin heads, whilst in the beauty therapy department there was a demo of nail art techniques. Finally, the young people let their imagination run wild with a face-painting activity using theatrical make-up in the media make-up salon.
The College’s Curriculum Manager for Hair, Beauty and Media Make-up, Jill Perkins, commented, “I was thrilled to see so much talent and creativity from these young learners. They demonstrated excellent nail art designs and hair styles. Their imagination was impressive with fantastic ideas for the face painting session being created. I look forward to welcoming these learners onto our full time programmes over the next few years and developing their natural ability to become our excellent stylist, therapist and make-up artists of the future.”
