4 March 2021 – Parent/Guardian Update

I hope that you and your families are all safe and well.

We have been working very hard to ensure that the re-opening of the College is done so in a measured and safe manner. As I’m sure you will appreciate, this has taken some time, particularly with the need to schedule in Lateral Flow Testing for all students who have ‘opted-in’. The schedule of this testing has now been communicated to those concerned and will commence from Thursday 4th March 2021. It is important to point out that this testing is optional and the College cannot mandate testing for all students. However we are pleased to report that a majority of students have given their consent.

Most curriculum areas will return to college on Tuesday 9th March 2021 on their normal timetable. This may or may not include some blended learning. Areas which are not returning onto a full timetable from Tuesday have been notified. If you are not returning to College, your lessons will continue to be delivered online.

The College will continue with the social distancing, one-way systems, hand cleansing, temperature testing and the additional cleaning routine that was in place prior to the Christmas holidays. However, the Government has given some additional guidance for face coverings and these will now be mandatory in classrooms as well as in social spaces within the College. The requirements are as follows:

  • Face coverings are mandatory on journeys to and from College if using public or college transport
  • Face coverings are mandatory indoors across the College including teaching and learning spaces where social distancing is not possible. This excludes sports lessons.
  • Face coverings are voluntary at break and lunchtimes if this time is taken outdoors. In dining areas across the College they are mandatory except while eating.
  • Staff face coverings are voluntary if social distancing can be maintained in teaching and learning spaces.

May I once again thank you for your ongoing support and patience at this time. We are really looking forward to welcoming all students back to college over the coming weeks.

Best wishes

Lucy Reed
