Media Students Work with Macclesfield in May Music Festival!

We are delighted to announce our Media students have been working on graphic designs for ‘Macclesfield in May’, a music festival raising money for The Christie Cancer Hospital. The festival celebrates exciting acts such as Peter Hook & The Light, Space and The Lottery Winners and more!

Our students have been working hard with Director of ‘Macclesfield in May’ Jo Lowes from Puffer Fish Press, to develop some designs that are being used to advertise the festival this spring. Working with Jo on such an impressive project will help the students develop their graphics skills, confidence when liaising with a client, as well as gaining real-life work experience.

Our Media students would usually be doing an external work placement this year, but due to current restrictions, this is not  possible for them. However, we do not believe that this should get in the way of the students gaining the skills and experience that the placements offer, and are glad to be working with Puffer Fish Press on this fantastic project. Jo Lowes, Founder of Puffer Fish Press and Director of ‘Macclesfield in May’ commented “The students have been excellent, they have shown great creativity and a real enthusiasm for the project. It has given them the opportunity to think about how to visually communicate the ethos of the festival, as well as develop designs, layouts and animation practical skills.”

Media Lecturer Suzi Cocker explained the process and how beneficial it is for the students. “They get the chance to work with a client and get a taste of how it is in the real world. The students all attended a briefing, and learnt about the task and the style that the client wanted.”

Alysha, a promising student working on the project, said “It’s been great working with an external client and getting real life experience and feedback from someone that is in the industry. I’ve really enjoyed it so far, we’ve learnt all about the style that Jo wanted and benefitted from constructive feedback to ensure we deliver the desired outcome.”

‘Macclesfield in May’ is a new not for profit 3 day live music festival coming to the stunning Grade II listed Christ Church in the centre of Macclesfield. It will run from 30 April – 2 May 2021, raising funds for the Christie Cancer Hospital in Macclesfield. It’s exciting to have a festival like this on our doorstep, and we are proud to say that our students are a part of it.
