Change of Name Corporation of Macclesfield College
Macclesfield College has announced their intention to change their name from Macclesfield College to East Cheshire College in order to represent the catchment area that the college serves.
The College has written its five year strategy which reflects both the ambition and growth across East Cheshire. Macclesfield College serves both Macclesfield Town Centre and the local community with over 60% of students travelling to Macclesfield College from outside of Macclesfield. Therefore, the proposal of the new name will epitomise the student demographic.
Macclesfield College is a medium-sized general further education college in the borough of East Cheshire. It serves the town of Macclesfield and the surrounding borough. The college provides 16 to 19 study programmes in a wide range of vocational areas. It also provides adult learning, apprenticeship standards and apprenticeship frameworks. East Cheshire is a predominantly rural borough in the North West of England. The unemployment rate is lower than the national and North West rate. East Cheshire has a large number of grammar schools and schools with sixth forms. The proportion of students leaving school with five GCSEs at grades A* to C or levels 9 to 4 including English and mathematics in East Cheshire is higher than the national rate. – Ofsted 2017 Report
Macclesfield is officially an Ofsted grade 2 ‘Good’ College noted from the last inspection in November 2017.
