Stockport County has agreed an exciting new partnership with Macclesfield College to become the preferred education provider for its Academy students.
Up to 75 young people aged 16 to 18 will receive their education from Macclesfield College from next month onwards, with the opportunity to gain qualifications which will help them to future-proof their careers.
County Director, Gary Burton said: “We are delighted to have forged this new deal with such a progressive and successful education provider as Macclesfield College. This will allow Alan Lord’s Academy students to benefit from a high-quality education and an academic pathway, whilst simultaneously enhancing their footballing skills and giving themselves a potential route into the first team at Stockport County Football Club.
“I am delighted to announce that we have established this exciting new partnership with Stockport County Football Club,” confirms the College’s Principal and Chief Executive, Rachel Kay. “As Cheshire’s leading education and training provider, we are committed to giving talented youngsters from across our region the chance to maximise their career potential and help to ensure that their professional dreams become a reality.”
As part of this new partnership, County will host a new Level 2 course in Events Management at Edgeley Park, where learners (aged 16 – 18) can move into a paid apprenticeship in leisure or hospitality, or go on to further study for a Level 3 qualification in Events Management.
The programme, provided by Macclesfield College (officially rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted), will offer up to 20 students a clear route into a career in events management, as well as the opportunity to hear from high-profile guest speakers from within the industry.
One of the top 30 colleges nationally for achievement (according to the latest DfE Performance Tables, published in 2019), Macclesfield College delivers a wide and diverse range of full and part-time courses to young people, as well as fully tailored programmes for adults and high quality training to local businesses via Maxim, its dedicated employer-responsive division. Furthermore, this award-winning college is East Cheshire’s leading provider of apprenticeships, with success rates for Level 2 and Level 3 standing at 6.8% above the national average, and an incredible 19% above for Higher Level programmes.
