Notice for Parents, Guardians and Students – 5th January 2021

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday, I am writing to you to confirm that Macclesfield College has moved all programmes to remote teaching and learning from today, Tuesday 5th January 2021. In line with current guidance, the College will remain closed until at least February half-term.

We have taken the difficult decision to postpone examinations that were scheduled to take place at Macclesfield College during January.  The safety of students and staff is of paramount importance, and with a surge in local infection rates together with the volume of students who travel from outside the immediate area to sit the examinations, we feel that postponement is the safest option.

I would like to reassure you that the teaching and support staff have been working hard to ensure that we can continue to deliver a high quality learning experience for all students and provide the best support we can in these difficult times.

From today, all lessons will continue as timetabled and will take place online. This will include all Maths and English lessons, tutorial provision and any support sessions that may have been scheduled. Students should continue to follow their normal timetable. Should any changes be necessary, they will be communicated with students directly by their course teacher. Parents/guardians can access timetables through the Parent Portal.

We now know that summer examinations for GCSEs will not take place, but we have no further information as to whether there will be any form of centre-assessed grading, as was the case last academic year. We do not yet know about examinations for any other qualifications and I will update you further when I receive more information. In the meantime, please can I remind all students that it is imperative that they ‘attend’ all of their lessons and complete all set homework and assessments to the best of their ability. Students will continue to receive calls from teaching staff and Progress Coaches to discuss their academic progress and offer pastoral support.

For vulnerable learners and those with an education and health care plan who have expressed an interest in accessing onsite engagement, our team will be contacting you in the coming days.

Students who are in receipt of bursary support to cover lunch costs will continue to receive payments covering the full period of College closure.

Thank you for your continued support in these difficult times; here at Macclesfield College we really value your support in helping us to ensure your child achieves the very best they can.

Please can I ask that you continue to check the website and social media for any further updates.

With best wishes
