Academic year: 20/21


This course is split into 2 certificates.

In semester 1 you will complete Level 1 Introductory Certificate in Health and Social Care and in
semester 2 you will complete Level 1 Introductory Certificate in Caring for Children under Five.

Together these certificates will give you the opportunity to do lots of practical activities to help you to learn
to care for adults, or children, it will also help you to develop your work and life skills. The benefits of this
course gives you an insight into the potential direction you may want to take in your further education and
employment and our specialist tutors are there to support you every step of the way.

If you have dreamed of a career within healthcare or nursing then our brand new Healthcare Academy programme is for you. This prestigious and highly sought after course is run in partnership with healthcare employers and will provide opportunities for you to go straight into an apprenticeship or degree in within healthcare industry. As a result there are only 20 places available per year.

The Healthcare Academy programme (BTEC Extended Diploma in Health Studies) is aimed at providing an insight into the skills, qualities, knowledge and experience needed to enter a career in the nursing and healthcare profession. A feature of this exciting and brand new course is the integration of theory and practice through state of the art teaching and learning here at College and through a variety of work placements. This elite course will provide students with invaluable experience offering a strong platform from which to build a career in healthcare.
An integral part of the course is attending a rotation of placements at Macclesfield hospital which will offer the opportunity to develop skills further and relate theory to practice.

If you have dreamed of a career within healthcare, the BTEC level 3 qualifications in Health and Social Care provide much of the underpinning knowledge for the National Occupational Standards in Health and Social Care/Health and consequently act as a robust introduction to both sectors.

Learners will benefit from gaining a number of mandatory units as well as a wide range of optional and specialist optional units according to the route embarked on. They will also benefit from gaining work experience in the sectors 100 hours minimum placement. These opportunities will aid career choices and potentially attract learners into

This is a vocational programme which will provide learners with the knowledge and skills essential to the health and social care sector, supporting progression to further learning or the workplace.

Overview of the Course
Access to Higher Education Diplomas are full Level 3 qualifications designed to prepare learners without traditional qualifications for entry into Higher Education (whether this be a degree at University or an HNC, HND or Foundation Degree at the College).
Access to Higher Education Diplomas are designed to ease learners back into education and will develop your knowledge, build your confidence, improve your learning techniques and develop your communication and IT skills. They will also give you the essential tools to be able to study effectively. The courses are designed to enable learners who may be lacking in confidence, without formal educational backgrounds or who have other commitments to succeed in Higher Education (HE).
Each year over 40,000 learners in the UK register on Access to HE Diplomas and most go on to succeed in HE and embark on life changing new careers.
Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health Professionals)
The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health Professionals) gives you the opportunity to apply for a degree across a range of health related areas including nursing, midwifery, paramedic etc. – preparing you well for academic work and university life. It’s an extremely popular course and an excellent way to maximise your job prospects. It could lead to you having a worthwhile career which has a positive impact on other people’s lives.
Studying an Access to HE Diploma leads to a national qualification, which is accepted as a standard entry qualification by HE providers in England and Wales. The vast majority of universities will accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas (Health Professionals) as an entry requirement to a health-related degree, but you‘re advised to check this with each of the establishments you’re interested in attending.
The course starts in September for the duration of one academic year and is organised to allow students to fit their study around their home, family and work commitments (9.30am – 3.00pm). You will be expected to attend all teaching sessions for approximately 10 – 12 hours in college over 3 days a week. Please note that you will need to supplement this by studying in your own time. Sessions will be delivered in well-equipped traditional classroom/laboratory settings; in addition you will access on-line material.
