Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications are designed to develop practical skills alongside specialist knowledge and understanding of the subject area. These qualifications have been well respected and recognised by employers and higher education institutions. The Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a Level 4 qualification which is equivalent to the first year of the Bachelor Degree. The HNC qualification can be studied by those in employment for professional development to enhance their career prospects or Level 3, A Level and Access to Higher Education students can use this as an alternative path to gain higher education locally at lower cost.
Overview
This course in Healthcare Practice is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the healthcare sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualification aims to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them. On successful completion of this course you will gain the Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Healthcare Practice.

This course is designed for you if you who would like to work within a health and social care organisation and you will have an emphasis on the working practices of a variety of health and social care services. A significant focus is placed on the skills required for effective communication, self-development and career progression. If you are looking to pursue a career in the health and social care sector or you are currently employed in a health or care setting or related environment and wish to combine work with study to develop your skills and knowledge to enhance your career prospects, then this may be the course for you.
Whilst studying on the course you can have the use of first class facilities at Macclesfield College including a private members gym (Lifestyle Fitness). The course will draw on a range of industry links and local employers to provide you with extensive health and social care experience. Live work placements are offered during the programme to provide direct industry experience in an area of your choice, developing and enhancing your employment prospects.

Overview

If you have dreamed of a career within nursing, then our brand new Nursing Cadet programme is for you. This prestigious and highly sought after course is run in partnership with healthcare employers and will provide opportunities for you to go straight into an apprenticeship or degree in nursing. As a result, there are only 20 places available per year.

The Extended Diploma in Health Studies (Nursing Cadet Programme) is aimed at providing an insight into the skills, qualities, knowledge and experience needed to enter a career in the nursing and healthcare profession. A feature of this exciting and brand new course is the integration of theory and practice through state of the art teaching and learning here at College and through a variety of work placements. This elite course will provide students with invaluable experience offering a strong platform from which to build a career in the field of nursing. An integral part of the course is attending a rotation of placements at Macclesfield hospital which will offer the opportunity to develop skills further and relate theory to practice.

Raising awareness of mental health can promote a more positive approach and give people the knowledge to challenge the negative attitudes or stereotyping that can reduce access to services for those affected by mental ill health.

This qualification aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties, dispel some of the myths and misconceptions frequently linked to mental health issues and develop learners’ knowledge of the rights of those with mental health issues.
