educational practice and childhood studies. The Access to Higher Education Diploma is a popular and nationally recognised
qualification designed to provide you with the skills needed to apply for education degree courses at universities.

and more. A significant proportion of graduates also go on to teacher training at primary and secondary levels.

This course can be commenced any time during the year.

Academic year: 19/20

Duration: 9th September 2019 to 26th June 2020

Access to Higher Education Diplomas are full Level 3 qualifications designed to prepare adult learners without traditional qualifications for entry into Higher Education (whether this be a degree at University or an HNC, HND or Foundation Degree at the College).
Access to Higher Education Diplomas are designed to ease adult learners back into education and will develop your knowledge, build your confidence, improve your learning techniques and develop your communication and IT skills. They will also give you the essential tools to be able to study effectively. The courses are designed to enable learners who may be lacking in confidence, without formal educational backgrounds or who have other commitments to succeed in Higher Education (HE). Each year over 40,000 learners in the UK register on Access to HE Diplomas and most go on to succeed in HE and embark on life changing new careers.
Access to Higher Education Diploma (Social Sciences & Humanities)
The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Social Sciences & Humanities) gives you the opportunity to apply for degrees across a range of subjects such as education, sociology, psychology, social work, literature, creative writing and media studies – preparing you well for academic work and university life. It is a popular course and an excellent way to maximise your job prospects and lead to a worthwhile career.
Studying an Access to HE Diploma leads to a national qualification, which is accepted as a standard entry qualification by HE providers in England and Wales. The vast majority of universities will accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas (Social Sciences & Humanities) as an entry requirement to a relevant degree, but you‘re advised to check this with each of the establishments you’re interested in attending.
The course starts in September for the duration of one academic year and is organised to allow students to fit their study around their home, family and work commitments (9.30am – 3.00pm). You will be expected to attend all teaching sessions for approximately 10 – 12 hours in college over 3 days a week. Please note that you will need to supplement this by studying in your own time. Sessions will be delivered in well-equipped traditional classroom/laboratory settings; in addition you will access on-line material.
