During the visit, students carried out a realistic crime scene investigation, where they gathered evidence, analysed data and prepared their findings. They also developed key technical skills including fingerprinting, footprint casting and hair fibre analysis, demonstrating strong attention to detail and confidence in a laboratory environment.

The trip directly supported their Crime Scene Investigation unit, helping to bring their studies to life while strengthening important teamwork and analytical skills that are essential for careers in public services.

By working in a university setting, students were able to experience what it is like to train and work in a professional facility, while also exploring future progression routes, careers and qualifications within crime science and related sectors.

Sue Martin, Deputy Principal at Macclesfield College, said:
“This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience crime scene investigation in a real world environment. Experiences like this are so important in helping students build confidence, develop practical skills and gain a clear understanding of the career pathways available to them. We are proud to work alongside organisations such as Keele University to provide these valuable opportunities.”
