Macclesfield College Welcomes Positive Ofsted Inspection Findings

Macclesfield College has welcomed the findings from its recent Ofsted inspection, which recognised strengths in student achievement, inclusion, employer engagement and safeguarding, as the college continues to deliver high-performing outcomes and ranks number one in Cheshire and Warrington for 16–19 Education and Training* (Department for Education National Achievement Rate Tables, March 2026)

Inspectors highlighted the college’s contribution to meeting local and regional skills needs, recognising its extensive partnerships with employers and stakeholders. The report noted that employer engagement is embedded across many curriculum areas, helping students and apprentices develop highly industry-relevant knowledge and skills.

The inspection also recognised the college’s inclusive culture, with leaders and governors praised for creating a supportive environment focused on student achievement. Inspectors highlighted the extensive wellbeing, counselling and specialist support available to help students succeed.

Student outcomes were identified as a key strength throughout the report. Inspectors found that students achieve well, make positive progress from their starting points and routinely produce work of a high standard. The report also recognised sustained improvements since the previous inspection, including higher achievement rates and improvements in the quality of teaching.

Inspectors praised the opportunities available beyond the classroom, including employer-led projects, careers events, skills competitions and enrichment activities. Students reported feeling safe, respected and well supported, with inspectors recognising the college’s positive safeguarding culture.

The inspection acknowledges the sustained improvements made since the previous inspection, particularly in learner and apprentice achievement and the quality of teaching experienced by learners. Inspectors also recognised the support and challenge provided by governors and the college’s effective collaboration with employers, universities, charities and community partners to enhance opportunities for learners.
