Valuing our Students and Apprentices

Macclesfield College provide an enabling learning and teaching environment for all our students, at the heart of this, we:

  • Ensure our student policies are fit-for-purpose and review them regularly, ensuring that Equality Impact Assessments are completed as appropriate.
  • Act firmly to challenge prejudice and eliminate bullying, discrimination, or harassment.
  • Support ‘Student and Apprentice Voice’ as an empowering tool for change.
  • Regularly review our student and apprentice data and act where appropriate.
  • Use a variety of different methods to attract and retain students from all backgrounds.
  • Comply with, or exceed, all equalities-related legislation.
  • Work hard to make reasonable adjustments for all with needs.
  • Encourage open, honest discussion about issues that support students’ and apprentices’ educational attainment.
  • Continue to develop a learning community that is reflective of the demographics of the area and beyond.

The College actively seeks to advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between people who the Equality Act identifies as possessing ‘protected characteristics’ and people who do not share such characteristics. These are listed as: age*, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership**

Equality and diversity issues are considered as an integral part of managing and operating the College to ensure that the decisions taken, and the services provided act to further our Equality Objectives.

The Macclesfield College Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Equity (EDIE) Committee review and develop policies together with a well-focused action plan setting out the annual priorities for actively promoting EDIE.
