What will I study?

During this course you will explore a full range of units including, but not limited to:
  • Generic Units, Bricklaying, Joinery
  • Wall Tiling, Construction, Operations, Painting & Decorating
  • Carpentry
  • Plastering, Plumbing.
Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above.

What career or further study opportunities will be available after completion?

On successful achievement of this course, you may wish to study a Level 1 course in Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery, Electrical or Plumbing at the College.

What are the entry requirements for this course & what qualifications will I gain upon completion?

There are no formal qualifications required.  This course may suit students who have no or very few qualifications and prefer to take part in practical based learning. On successful completion of this course you will gain a City & Guilds Entry Level Award in Construction Skills.

How long does it take to finish the course?

This is a full-time programme for one academic year.

Whether you choose to specialise in design, surveying or a related field, this qualification provides a strong foundation for a successful career in the construction industry.

What are the entry requirements for this course & what qualifications will I gain upon completion?

You will need 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including English and maths. On successful completion of this programme, you will gain a T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning. (Equivalent to 3 A Levels)

How long does it take to finish the course?

This is a full-time programme for 2 academic years

TRIP/EMPLOYERS

Throughout your Construction Skills course, you will benefit from regular guest talks by industry professionals at all levels. These experts will share valuable insights and advice to enhance your learning experience.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in site visits to major construction projects, allowing you to see industry applications of your skills and knowledge.

Additionally, internal visits from construction companies will provide you with practical knowledge and a broader understanding of the industry. These experiences will enrich your education and prepare you for a successful career in construction.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS IN CONSTRUCTION SKILLS

  • Embrace Learning: Actively participate in all practical tasks. The more you practice, the more skilled you’ll become.
  • Follow Safety Protocols: Always use PPE and adhere to safety guidelines. Safety is essential in every aspect of construction.
  • Ask For Help: If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to ask questions. Your teachers are here to support you.
  • Practice Regularly: Dedicate time outside of class to practice. Extra effort will improve your skills and build confidence.
  • Stay Organised: Keep your tools and workspace orderly. An organised environment enhances efficiency and learning.
  • Collaborate and Communicate: Work well with your peers and share ideas. Effective teamwork and communication are key to success in the field.

Her proactive approach to learning, attention to detail and enthusiasm have consistently impressed both staff and peers.

Beyond the classroom, her professionalism during work placements further demonstrated her exceptional work ethic, earning her well deserved recognition.
