Macclesfield College Hosts First Culture Day

Macclesfield College Hosts First Culture Day

On Thursday 22nd May 2025, Macclesfield College proudly hosted its first Culture Day, bringing students and staff together for a vibrant celebration of the many cultures that make up our college community.

Organised by the EDIE (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Equity) Committee, the event filled the College with energy, music, dance and the incredible smells of freshly made food from around the world. The atmosphere was joyful, welcoming and full of pride.

Highlights of the day included:

  • Delicious international food from Dumpling and Ting (Jamaican), Las Paellas (Spanish), Wing Yan Hon (bubble tea) and 2C9 – Asian Street Food
  • Lively Zimbabwean, South African and Ukrainian dance and singing performances
  • Beautiful Ukrainian embroidery and doll making workshops
  • Handcrafted items by Rebecca Hill
  • Fun and games with the Carrom Board
  • “Desserts from Around the World” from our Pathways students

Students and staff spent the day exploring new cultures, connecting with one another and celebrating the diversity that enriches our college. The rotunda was filled with music, dance and laughter – a fantastic day enjoyed by all.

“Culture Day is appreciating the heritage, traditions and diversity of our College in a way we can all connect,” said Marie Sheehan-Slade, Director of HR and Culture, who leads the EDIE Committee. “It was incredible to see our college community come together in such a powerful, positive way. The energy and pride on display were truly inspiring.”

A huge thank you goes to the EDIE Committee, all our contributors and everyone who took part in making the day such a success. It was a powerful reminder of the value of inclusivity, cultural expression, and community spirit.
