Level 1: Bricklaying

Level 1: Bricklaying

Overview

What will I study?

During this course you will explore a full range of units including but not limited to:
  • Safe working practices in construction
  • Information, quantities and communicating with others
  • Building methods and construction technology
  • Carry out basic brick and block laying
  • Carry out basic cavity wall construction
  • Set out and build basic masonry structures up to damp course level
Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above.

What career or further study opportunities will be available after completion?

On successful achievement of this course you may wish to: • Apply to study the Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork qualification • Apply for an Apprenticeship in the construction industry.

What are the entry requirements for this course & what qualifications will I gain upon completion?

For this course you will need to have achieved 2 GCSEs at grades 1 or above, or achievement of the entry level construction skills qualification.   On successful completion of the course you will gain a City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying qualification.

How long does it take to finish the course?

This is a full-time programme for one academic year.

Overview

What will I study?

During this course you will explore a full range of units including but not limited to:  
  • Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Principles of construction, quantities and communicating with others
  • Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding
  • Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
  • Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
  • Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures
Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above.

What career or further study opportunities will be available after completion?

On successful achievement of this course you may wish to:  
  • Apply for an Apprenticeship in the construction industry
  • Go straight into working in the construction industry in a variety of roles
