Overview

What will I study?

During this course you will explore a full range of units including but not limited to: Mandatory Units:
  • Principles of marketing
  • Enterprise in the business world
  • Finance for business
Specialist Units to include:
  • Promoting a brand
  • Introducing project management
  • Building successful teams
  • Principles of customer service
Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above.

What career or further study opportunities will be available after completion?

On successful completion of this course you may wish to:  
  • Apply to study the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Business if you have achieved a Merit or above
  • Enter a business related career such as administration, finance, customer services, sales, ICT, accounting or personnel.
  • Secure an apprenticeship in a business related field

What are the entry requirements for this course & what qualifications will I gain upon completion?

For this course you will need 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above. On successful completion of this course you will gain a BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Business qualification.  This qualification is equivalent to 3 GCSEs grades 4-9.

How long does it take to finish the course?

This is a full-time programme for one academic year.

Overview

What will I study?

During this course you will explore a full range of units including but not limited to: Core units:
  • Exploring a Business
  • Developing a Marketing Campaign
  • Personal and Business Finance
  • Managing an Event
  • International Business
  • Principles of Management
  • Business Decision Making
Specialist units will include:
  • Recruitment and Selection Process
  • Team Building in a Business
  • Aspects of criminal law affecting business and individuals
  • Pitching for a new Business
  • Training and Development
  • Branding

What career or further study opportunities will be available after completion?

This course will allow progression to study an Apprenticeship, study higher education such as HNC / HND business at Macclesfield College or University. Alternatively, you could go straight into the industry in a variety of roles.

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR BUSINESS STUDIES

TRIP/EMPLOYERS

You will have the opportunity to take part in exciting educational and industrial visits during your business course. Destinations may include The Co-operative Bank, Petty Pool, Alton Towers and The Trafford Centre. These trips provide practical experience and valuable insights into the dynamic business sector, along with opportunities to connect with industry professionals.

Additionally, you will benefit from guest talks by industry experts, who will offer practical advice to enhance your learning experience. Furthermore, students will participate in a Dragons’ Den-style competition, where they will pitch and present their very own business proposals. This unique experience helps to develop entrepreneurial skills and provides a platform to showcase innovative ideas.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Abigail-Jo Curtin was named Student of the Year for Business at Macclesfield College, a testament to her exceptional dedication and hard work throughout her studies. She consistently approached her coursework with unwavering commitment, overcoming challenges with a positive attitude.

Outside of the classroom, Abigail-Jo made significant contributions to the College community. She actively participated in organising events, volunteered at a local food bank and provided valuable support to her fellow students. Her willingness to assist others, offering encouragement and exam help, made a meaningful impact on those around her.

 Abigail-Jo’s contributions and dedication truly set her apart as a remarkable student and a valuable asset to both the College and the business field.
