This course will allow you to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Site Carpentry.
You will need to have achieved a Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery, however learners with the relevant experience or a keen desire to excel in the specialist area would be considered on an individual basis.
During this course you will cover the following units which will develop both your theoretical knowledge and your practical application:
· Safe working practices in construction
· Information, quantities, and communicating with others
· Building methods and construction technology
· First fixing operations
· Second fixing
· Erect structural carcassing
· Carry out maintenance
· Set up and operate a circular saw
Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above. If you have achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will engage in extending these skills through a Directed Study Programme.
Assessment of each unit will be by internal testing along with a mandatory series of questions. Also, synoptic practical assignments and an outline test covering the core units and the occupational units.
GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work

On successful achievement of this course you may wish to:
· Apply to study a Level 3 programme in the same or similar discipline
· Apply for an Apprenticeship in the construction industry
